Newborn Essentials To Making Newborn Life Easier

Disclaimer: If you buy something though the The Urban Mom’s recommended product links, we may earn an affiliate commission, at no cost to you. Amanda and her team have linked these products because we only recommend products that we genuinely love, tested and trust.

This is my tried and true list of Newborn Essentials. Number 3 under SLEEP might be surprising to you! This list is pretty minimal, so it’s great if you’re short on space. Your newborn baby doesn’t need their own room, so decorating a nursery isn’t essential, but there are some things that I highly recommend for a smooth (as possible) adjustment.

If you’re putting together your registry or trying to figure out what you really need for your baby, this list will give you a better idea of what you’ll actually use and some of my specific product recommendations.

Sleep:

  1. Bassinet
  2. Sleep Sack
  3. Hot Water Bottle – I use this to help my newborn adjust to sleeping in a bassinet. I put a warm Hot Water Bottle down in the bassinet, feed the baby then put the baby down in the warm, cozy spot.
  4. Sound Machine
  5. Cozy Baby Blanket

Travel:

  1. Baby Carrier
  2. Carseat
  3. Stroller
  4. Infant Carseat Cover
  5. Diaper Bag

Feeding:

  1. Como Tomo baby bottles
  2. Burp Cloths
  3. Drying Rack
  4. Breast Pump

Bath Time:

  1. Baby wash cloths
  2. Baby Shampoo & Body Wash
  3. Bath Tub

Clothing:

  1. Onesies
  2. Footed Pjs
  3. Baby Hats
  4. Cozy Booties
  5. Jacket or sweater
  6. Laundry Detergent for Babies
  7. Stain Remover

General Care:

  1. Diapers
  2. Waterproof change pad
  3. Diaper Cream/ointment
  4. Wipes
  5. Snot Sucker
  6. First Aid kit – includes thermometer, nail clippers, hair brush…
  7. Baby Bouncer
  8. Diaper Caddy

As you can see this list doesn’t include a high chair, baby utensils, teething stuff or even books and toys! Newborn babies don’t need a whole lot in the first 3 months of life. You will be spending the majority of your time feeding them, changing them and sleeping, but weirdly… they’re wide awake feeding at night!

If you’re building a registry or just shopping for a newborn, I suggest getting the essentials and then add to your collection as you figure out what works best for your family.
