The year I got married I had a major skin reaction! It was super painful. My skin was irritated and I had a red eczema-like rash all over my face! I freaked out because I was getting married later that year. I turned to a bunch of books and research to find out what could be causing this and went through countless blood tests, and nothing seemed to be wrong. Turns out it was the ventilation in my office!
While I was reading about skin and how your diet affects your skin, I found a book called Joyous Health by Joy McCarthy. The book is filled with easy recipes, facts and tips. I read the entire book and left with an understanding of food, food marketing, even food processing. After reading this book I made my own detox and eliminated Cow’s Milk from my diet for 2 weeks and noticed a difference in my skin and gut right away (less stomach aches!)
My go to smoothie for me is her Green Goddess Smoothie. The original has 1 cup of spinach in it, which I have in my fridge sometimes. This is my version of the recipe without the spinach.
Easy Detox Beauty Smoothie
This smoothie is full of detoxifying plants like kale, mint and detoxifying seeds like chia seeds. It is full of plant-based protein and good fat! You don’t taste the kale at all! It just tastes like a banana, mango smoothie! Yum!
- 1 small handful or 2 tbsp of hemp seeds
- 1 banana
- 1/2 ripe avocado, peeled
- 1 cup of frozen mangos
- 1/2 cup kale torn in pieces, stems removed
- 2 tbsp chia seeds
- 5 leaves of mint, chopped
- 1 cup of almond milk
- Optional: Water, just enough for desired consistency
